The Goan Kalimba

Priya, my spouse gifted me a Kalimba in February 2020. My bonding with the musical instrument was subconsciously fostered over hours of random plucking of its keys for months to come. It was because of Priya's encouragement that I started my Instagram Kalimba page @thegoankalimba

Kalimba is a musical instrument having an African origin. Also called a “thumb piano,” it belongs to the category of percussion instruments with the number of keys ranging from five to twenty-one.

The soothing sound and the action of playing the kalimba is known to have positive effects on an individual’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Hence, the instrument has become integral for music therapy.

The handy little instrument demands no more space than a novel on the shelf and can be played even while lying comfortably on the bed.
